Natures Shades Prizes Klaxon

There are less than 2 weeks left for our Natures Shades Along? How did that happen ?

Firstly I need to say, as ever, your enthusiasm for this has rocked my hand-knit socks. I love your love for natural wool. I am not very active in the thread (up to our eyes in packing boxes), but lurking and reading, Your work is amazing and so many great FO’s already.

I already know I am not going to be too present around the end of this KAL (But I will send out reminders of the deadline, etc) but I thought it would be nice to give you a wee carrot on a stick, to help get your WIPs to FOs for the deadline and announce some of the prizes.

| Prizes from Generous Donators!

Louise Spong, from South Downs Yarn, has given us a Chalky Way shawl kit! The shawl is designed by the very talented Orlane Sucche and uses 6 x 30g skeins of the beautiful Ridings Flock southdown, from South Down Yarns. You will get 6 skeins and a code to download the pattern. Thank you so much to Louise and Orlane.

Tune in to the next podcast (out *sometime* soon!) and hear Louise and I talk all about southdown breed and South Downs Yarns. I had a lot of fun chatting with Louise.

Lilith, from Old Maiden Aunt, has offered a prize of the very last of her special hand-dyed Uist Wool blends, in Machair, as well as two skeins of Garthenor No 2 in Ash, Shetland 4ply. This wee prize bundle will make something gorgeous! Thank you, Lilith.

What is this? Well, it isn’t even a yarn yet, but it will be Uist Wool’s new yarn Tuath. This is the yarn they are making to commemorate the North Atlantic Native Sheep and Wool Conference (13-15th Sept – one or two tickets left!) Look at all those North Atlantic breeds which will be contained within!

A teasy taster of yarn to come. This is the beginnings of Tuath (north) a very interesting one-off yarn for the North Atlantic Native Sheep & Wool Conference being held in Uist next month. This yarn is spun from as many different breeds of North Atlantic short-tailed sheep as we could get our greasy mitts on. The list includes: Hebridean (obvs), Soay, Boreray, North Ronaldsay, Icelandic, Faroese, Gotland, Manx Loaghtan, Shetland, Villsau. You’ll have to wait to find out what mysterious shade it will all blend into… For info about the conference (still some tickets left), follow the link in our profile. 🐑 🐑 🐑 #uistwool #tuath #nordicwool #mysteryyarn #knittersofinstagram #northatlanticnativesheepandwoolconference #northatlanticnativewoolfibre #notlongnow

That is a super special limited ed skein, and I will even go to Uist and collect it for you! haha! Well, its on my way to the NANSAW conference.  Many, many thanks to Uist Wool for this.

These next prizes come courtesy of the wonderful Jen and Jim Arnall Culliford. Following on from A Year of Techniques, Jen and Jim have again worked with incredible designers, such as Donna Smith, Rachel Coopey, Martina Behm and Lucy Hague, to create beautiful designs which feature step-by-step skills, which are indispensable to our makerly arsenal! Thanks so much to Jen and Jim!

Rachel Atkinson has offered one winner their choice of one skein of Brume DK, or Hebridean Zwartbles 4ply or DK or, alternatively, they can choose two skeins of Ram Jam. I’m knitting my Gryer shawl in the four shades of Ram Jam, for the Natures Shades and OH. MY. WORD! I’ve made so many promises of more accessories and garments in this yarn. It is so softly textured, warm and airy.  All of the breed fleece included would have gone to waste had Rachel not bought it and lovingly made an incredible 100% wool (and 100% Yorkshire!) worsted yarn. Thanks to her for this lovely winner’s choice prize.

How is that to whet your appetite? These are just some of the prizes too! I say “some” as there are actually going to be a few more KB prizes and two of our treasured community have also offered prizes too, which is just so kind! I raided the KB prize drawer in the initial packing, so that I wouldn’t bury the prizes in boxes. I sealed them all up and they will be the most important box to unpack when we do move However, I forgot to list or take pics of what they are! So those will be a little bonus surprise when it comes to the random prize draws.

Knit, crochet and otherwise make your way to 11.59pm on 31st August and get your cast off picture in the FO thread by that time (it doesn’t have to be blocked!)!

Thanks again to all of our prize donators and I will do a full list when I random draw the prizes, late in September.
