episode 62 a visit to The Border Mill

17-04-2017

Welcome back to the KnitBritish Podcast. For full shownotes with links and images please do visit the website.

During the summer break I went to The Border Mill, in the Scottish Borders. There I met John and Juliet, who gave me a full tour of their small scale mill, which specialises in alpaca fibre.

It was five years ago when the Millers decided to make a career change. They already had the alpacas, but found mills had long waiting times to process fibres and often large batch minimums. As soon as John and Juliet opened their doors they were inundated with clients.

They produced their first 100% alpaca yarns in 2013 for the first Edinburgh Yarn Festival and their range has grown since then to include alpaca mohair, lopi yarn, alpaca tweed (with exclusive colours commissioned by Loop, in London) and the forthcoming alpaca silk.

Please grab a drink, grab a WIP and join me on a visit to The Border Mill.
